The continuous bacterial activity can cause infection over time and damage the teeth. If you do not pay attention to this important issue and do not go to the dental clinic, the infection will cause tooth decay. After such a situation, the dentist advises people to fill their decayed teeth.

How Do You Prepare for Dental Fillings?

You are the most important person in dental care. Before filling your teeth, you can take steps to avoid the side effects of filling your teeth. Do the following before filling your teeth:

Answer all your family history questions about illnesses and medications. These include medications, home remedies, and even vitamins. Before going to the dentist, it is best to make a list of these as well as your possible allergies.

If you are pregnant, be sure to talk to your dentist.

The filling process can be both permanent and temporary. This is a two-step process, the first part of which is temporary. During the first stage, the teeth are temporarily filled with fillings. If the person being treated is not allergic to the filling materials and structures, the dentist will remove the temporary material and fill the tooth with a permanent material.

Dental fillings help protect your teeth from further decay and the possibility of infection. But dental fillings also wear out and need to be replaced; Of course, most fillers last for years and do not need to be replaced. You should see your dentist for regular checkups every 6 months to make sure your fillings are healthy. Also, do not forget about oral hygiene.

Why Do You Need Fillings in Your Teeth?

When the soft tissue of the tooth is damaged (which usually dies), the tooth also decays. During the dental filling process, we seek to remove rotten tissue and replace it with filler material. Types of Dental Fillings

Different materials are usually used to dental filling. Each of which has a specific application and is used for a specific purpose. Fillers used for molar teeth should be stronger. Because in chewing food, the most pressure is applied to the end of the mouth and molar teeth, so if low quality and weak materials are used in these teeth, they will soon need to be refilled.

Dark fillings can be used to fill molar teeth. But to fill the front teeth, it is better to use light and white filling materials. Because these teeth are more visible and filling them with dark materials decrease the beauty of the teeth and face.

Teeth can be filled with silver amalgam, gold, porcelain, composite resin, etc. The best tooth fillings for our dependence on the cost, what our insurance may cover, and our beauty preferences.

What Material is Used for Tooth Filling?

Amalgam:

This material is an old material for filling teeth. Amalgam is easily distinguished from other materials by its silver colour. Today, dentists use this substance less because of the presence of mercury in its structure, which is a toxic substance and can be harmful to health.

Composite:

Composites look like natural teeth and do not need to shave the healthy part to stick to the teeth when using it. This material can be a good option for filling teeth because it does not corrode. This method is suitable for removing small caries and is not suitable for removing large caries due to its higher cost than amalgam.

Ceramic:

This material does not stick to the teeth compared to the previous two materials. Ceramics are a good choice for dental fillings because they resemble natural teeth. When filling a tooth with ceramic, because it is bulky, you should shave more of the healthy tooth. Ceramics are more expensive than composites and amalgam.

Gold:

As you may have guessed, the cost of filling teeth with gold is very high and this material is used when we want to create high strength and durability. This material is resistant to corrosion and does not allow bacteria and food particles to penetrate tooth decay.

Glass ionomer:

This material has a colour similar to tooth colour and sticks easily to the teeth. Due to its natural appearance, this substance is widely used in filling teeth. This substance is released slowly overtime at the site of decay and under the filling.
